Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: A month or so ago we had a problem where Allan Lichtman told his followers to go edit his pages to remove critical material. He has continued to agitate about Wikipedia and his followers have been reverting the pages in contravention to the talk pages again though I do not know if he said anything about it in the last week. I did my best to remove vandalism or content editing against the talk page consensus and redirect them there, where the issues were resolved months ago. I do not think the pages need full protection, but blocking unregistered users may help, as that seems to be the root of the problem on all "sides" (both critics and support). This is for both his main page and the The Keys to the White House page. As far as I can tell I got it back to where it was before someone started editing everything again but I will check. One of the editors has a user name matching the name of his wife. Caraturane (talk) 21:12, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize I flipped the pages, the edits are occurring on The Keys to the White House page today, but semi-protecting both is probably most practical given the apparent conflict of interest edits. Caraturane (talk) 21:19, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined but only so the bot will not flag this as "not done". I have protected the Keys article for three months, and I have decided to take the step that I don't usually take of logging that protection at CTOPS under AP due to the proximity of the election. Daniel Case (talk) 17:55, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: vandalism CassiJevenn (talk) 22:41, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. A single IP has done this twice in the last month. Daniel Case (talk) 18:05, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High IP of vandalism, adding uncited sources that Valdes will be transfer on GMA Network as a new news chief of GMA Integrated News, even though she already retire as a journalist and news chief of News5, the news and current affairs department of TV5. BeemoKincaid (talk) 00:42, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Last such edits were a couple of days ago. Daniel Case (talk) 18:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent IP vandalism (section blanking). Amigao (talk) 01:30, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 18:11, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: this article rapidly abducted by the vandals while the article is in semi-protected layer of restrictions but nothing seem to be impactful due to various radicals involved in such offensive organisation. Helper1.of~Devine (talk) 04:52, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Long term protection: High level of IP vandalism. M S Hassan 📬✍🏻 10:01, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Daniel Case (talk) 18:26, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Disruptive editing from IP who will not cease, contrary to good faith JJNito197 (talk) 12:20, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is extremely disingenuous, JJNito has been repeatedly trying to push a specific WP:POV, going so far as to entirely remove references to the party's fascist ideology. There is absolutely no reason to remove the content or their sources beyond whitewashing the party. This individual has been disruptively editing Syrian Social Nationalist Party for quite some time, and it's clear they're trying to seek to protect their version. I'm going to remind that we should not tolerate efforts to present such parties as less extreme than they are, as per WP:NONAZIS. 69.157.2.197 (talk) 12:57, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Daniel Case (talk) 19:31, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Kiwiz1338 (talk) 12:56, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Last edit was 10 days ago. Daniel Case (talk) 19:32, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Return of disruptive editing by anonymous editors. livelikemusic (TALK!) 14:54, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 19:36, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Repeated WP:CASTE disruption by socks, IPs etc. Gotitbro (talk) 15:04, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Will log at WP:GS/CASTE Daniel Case (talk) 20:13, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Semi-protection - persistent POV pushing by IP(s) who seem to be associated with the late Trostkyist leader Gerry Healy and the World Socialist Website due to a recent critical biography of Healy which mentions a violent attack on Ernie Tate and an article by the WSWS's David North attacking the bio[1]. Wellington Bay (talk) 15:46, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 20:18, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: BLP policy violations – Recent death of a principal person mentioned in this article has resulted in several unsourced (and false) edits.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 16:54, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 19:28, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – Anons continue to add information about the subject's political views sourced only by third-party social media posts. Invisiboy42293 (talk) 17:20, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Will leave CTOPS notice on talk. Daniel Case (talk) 20:21, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Moxy🍁 19:14, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 2A02:810A:12BF:E2A0:0:0:0:0/64 (talk · contribs) blocked by Ohnoitsjamie. from the article for three months. Daniel Case (talk) 20:24, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Disruptive editing by IPs. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:42, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. Daniel Case (talk) 20:27, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High levels of vandalism Wildfireupdateman (talk) 19:48, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined The IP that had been doing this has not edited since they were warned. Given that this is a breaking news story and thus the article is likely to be heavily and quickly edited I do not feel disruption is at the level yet where we must intervene. Daniel Case (talk) 20:30, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Semi-protection - repeated addition of unsourced content. McPhail (talk) 19:52, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of three days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Daniel Case (talk) 20:32, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Left CTOPS and WP:GS/PW notices on talk Daniel Case (talk) 20:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
