Move
[edit]No, this is a major character and should not be moved to the star wars wiki. --Golbez 08:55, Mar 28, 2005 (UTC)
Disputed
[edit]There seems to be some dispute over whether Ulic Qel-Droma was ever the Dark Lord of the Sith. To avoid an all out edit-war, I have started a discussion at KFan II's user page about this topic. Any contributions to the discussion would be helpful. --Nufy8
- The user who added the content about Ulic being the Dark Lord of the Sith is unable to verify this account, as per the user talk page linked above. Looking at his Databank entry, and going through synopsis of the novels fails to yield that Ulic was anything more than Exar Kun's apprentice, and that he never achieved or took on the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith. If this user or anyone else cannot verify this content in one week, I will remove it in accordance with Wikipedia's Verifiability Policy. --Nufy8 01:01, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I can verify the truth of this. I posess the sources in question in regards to this subject matter. The Tales of Jedi series of comics written by Kevin J. Anderson and Tom Veitch are the sources where the events of the original Sith War eventually transpired. The specific events that are being asked about take place in Tales of the Jedi: Dark Lords of the Sith series. Due to inept EU writers who don't look before they leap, it has thenceforth become known as the Great Sith War to prevent confusion with other Sith wars that have apparently occured/been fabricated/will be fabricated in theory.
Anyways, Exar Kun fell to the dark side by Freedon Nadd and found his way to Cinnagar, sensing Ulic, who had by that point been so corrupted by Aleema Keto of the Krath and the Sith poison her brother, Satal admininstered to him that he was apt to become a dark Jedi, if not a Sith altogether.
The two clashed in a grand duel, reminescent of Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh some thousands of years prior, and like that battle, was intervened by the spirit of Marka Ragnos, the last ruler of the now-dead Sith Empire, who proclaimed Exar Kun the Dark Lord of the Sith, and Ulic, his apprentice, and who is deserving of the title of Sith Lord at the very least.
The Sith War took place and such things as Exar slaying his mentor, the Jedi Master, Vodo-Siosk Bass and suceeded in turning many Jedi apprentices to the dark side alongside instructing and oft successfully to kill their masters as well.
Ulic is known for famously dueling Mandalore the First and having bested him, had the Mandalorians at his disposal, to which he used to great affect to attack Coruscant but his efforts were staved off and he was captured by the Galactic Republic.
Qel-Droma would eventually kill his brother, Cay in another grand duel and his former lover, Nomi Sunrider, stricken with grief, would wield the Force in a twisted way and purge it from Ulic to the end of his days.
The conclusion of the Sith War was due to Ulic, realizing the error of his ways, sought to help the Jedi and to slay his former master. He led them too late to Yavin IV to kill Exar Kun, who with the Jedi armada orbiting the planet, sacrificed the whole population of Massassi so that his spirit would live on.
In Tales of the Jedi: Redemption, Ulic Qel-Droma is shown about 10 years later, a broken man. Ulic would redeem himself in ways by training Nomi's child, Vima who had sought him out on the uninhabited world of Rhen Var. He would eventually be shot in the back by an asshole named Hoggon, who felt he'd done a good deed in slaying a Sith. His body is shown to haved faded away which Vima Sunrider indicated only a Jedi Master could do and thus proclaimed the man to have had the heart of a Jedi.
There you have it. Ulic Qel-Droma was never a Dark Lord of the Sith though he was most certainly apprenticed to one.

- The tag was wrong, so I fixed it. Should be fine now. --Nufy8 03:40, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

Quote
[edit]Could someone dig up the things that Baas says to Kun, about a "dark place" in his heart? I think it'd be a good quote to add to the article, point out some more how Kun's rise and fall is very much tragic. --Maru (talk) Contribs 05:27, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Literary notability
[edit]why is he notable outside fictional star wars universe? this is just a potted summary of his story from the books, nothing more. what was the authors aims & intentions with this character? what was his inspiration? what does the outside world think of him?
- I can do little but speculate, but I believe Ulic Qel-Droma and Exar Kun are two sides of the same coin- a continuation of the exploration of the prototypical story of a fall from grace into the Dark Side which Lucas first essayed in the Star Wars trilogies. I say flipsides, because Ulic fell and recovered, and Kun fell but never recovered, even when granted the opportunity to repent over millennia of consideration, so between the two they cover both possibilitiess. --maru (talk) contribs 22:36, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
